Dear Doily

Thinking of Spring and love doilies, so I used the ‘Dear Doily’ bundle  for a couple of cards. These A2 cards have the same base design making it fun to vary up the color and create a set of cards that coordinate with each other.

Begin with layering a 5 1/4 x 4″ piece of cardstock onto an A2 base. You choose the color…I varied it up in each card and you can see  how different each card looks by simply changing it up a bit.

Next, from the ‘Gingham Gala’ paper cut a 3 x 4 1/4″” piece  with the  ‘Stitched Rectangle’ die. Top and center a layer of 3×4″ ‘Whisper White’ cardstock which is trimmed with a coordinating solid  3 1/4  x4″ piece of cardstock.  (See note below for a tip on this step.)

Now the fun begins with each card’s elements:

The Daffodil Delight card is totally layered with stamped and die cut images from the set then embellished with enamel dots I had on hand and ribbon (which I earned free.)   Simple but great look.

The Grapefuit Grove card has a doily cutout from the ‘Dear Doily’ bundle exposing the checkered background. Add another doily in ‘Grapefruit Grove’ and glue into that space to add a pop of color.

Butterflies, ribbon and a little bling complete the look.

Tip: Die cut the ‘Gingham Gala’ and white-trimmed piece together using the ‘Stitched Rectangle’ die set. Position the white piece where you want it, tape in place on the gingham then die cut together. This will give you a clean-cut look without having to cut each piece individually and trying to make it fit perfectly when layered together.

To use this technique cut the gingham piece 3×4″ and the white at 3×5″. This allows for easy die cutting to the 3×4″size.

If you have this set hope you share your creation….would love to see it.   Have fun creating your own paper confections.

Humming Along

Watercoloring birds just isn’t easy for me. So I challenged myself with the ‘Hummingbird Along ‘ bundle to see where it would take me.

The first card is in shades of blue with a bit of green.  First put the base card together. Cut a 5 1/4 x 4″  ‘Night of Navy’ piece of cardstock and layer to A2 base.   Then cut a 3′ circle out of  a 3 1/4 x 4 3/4″ ‘Whisper White’ ‘Rectangle Stitched’  piece and glue a doily over the circle to let the ‘Night of Navy’ cardstock show through.

Next use ‘Stampin Blends’  to color and die cut the hummingbird.  The ‘Color Lifter ‘pen does a fabulous job blending and removing color where you don’t want it.  Layer and pop up the bird with ‘Dimensionals.’  Add a sentiment  and  put little dots on the body of the bird for additional detail.  Also, use ‘Wink of Stella”  where you like to give the hummingbird some glisten…kinda like they really do look.

Now the second card has a story I am sure you will relate to but will detail that part a bit later.

This card was inspired by something seen on Pinterest and love the idea of stamping several flowers on the edges of the card.

Cut out a hummingbird on watercolor paper and paint. Color the flowers and leaves  in pinks and greens (after stamping) and  put a wash around it all with diluted pink ink .   Watercolor with ink pads this time around.    Simply lay colors on a non- porous surface or lid of your stamp pad and delute with water to paint.

Pop-up  and attach the hummingbird with ‘Dimensionals.’   Stamp a sentiment and all that is left is to add the black frame cut from the ‘Stitched Rectangle’ die set.

The frame is actually  a left over piece from  cutting  a layer piece for another card.   To create, you simply  cut cardstock 1/4″ bigger (on all sides) than the panel you are  die cutting.  When cut you will have a frame and center piece…two pieces in one cut.

Now for the rest of the story…..oh boy did I make a mess.

I actually made the pink card first and set it aside while working on the blue card. Well, I didn’t put it far enough away and if you look closely at the pink card you see some blue spots that dripped on the sentiment and above.   Oooh that made me angry.   Couldn’t get the blue out.  Tried to erase it out, water it out and disaster was brewing.   The sentiment was ruined and I had broken fibers from too much scrubbing!

I am not the best  at watercoloring and didn’t relish the thought that I would have to throw this card away and start over.  What to do…crafters find a way right? So I die cut another flower and some leaves and colored them up.  Took the bird off and attached the flower and leaves over the damaged spot and trimed the edge.

Had to put the sentiment  in another place and reattach the bird in a different spot, but it worked out.  The flower attached over the frame gives more dimension and the bird (in it’s new location) looks as though it is flying through a bush of flowers.

Sometimes those mistakes give us time to be more creative and that’s what happened here.

Will link the products used and if you have questions, I have answers…just leave me a message.

All Adorned …Preview

Mandalas are so beautiful and the ‘All Adorned’ set reminds me of them. I cased this card from the Sale a Bration second release catalog that’s coming soon  (February 15- 31) and made it my own with a few additions.

Using the ‘Stamparatus’ was fun and made precision stamping the two main images down the side of the card easy.

Layering is a main ingredient in this confection. You can add more dimension by stamping and embossing…that’s what you see on the silver piece. Simply stamp the design with ‘VersaMark’ ink and emboss with silver powder.

After cutting and embossing, glue the pieces together. Finish with a sentiment and add some ‘Organdy Ribbon’ curled around the sides. Then pop up sentiment with dimensionals.   Also, add some enamel dots or bling for a tactile to feel cards and all the textures.

Several of the products shown today were earned free. If you would like more information just leave a message.

Would love any comments you may have. Hope you get crafty and make your own paper confections.

By the Bay

Here’s a masculine card that comes together quickly with the ‘By the Bay’ set (earned free during Sale a Bration.)

No coloring required…just stamp and simple layering to add richness and depth. The white frame was actually a scrap from some pieces cut with the ‘Stitched Rectangle Dies’ and layered next to the gray piece.  The stitching on the die added more detail and a finished look.

You can’t see it very well in the photo so here’s a close up of an embossing folder used to add texture to the scene. It’s called ‘Subtle Impressions’ and turns ordinary paper into a linen textured piece.

Would love to hear what you think. And as always, if you have questions about joining Stampin’Up! or how to earn free items during Sale a Bration I am happy to answer them.

Go get your craft on and make some paper confections of your own. (then come back and share them, K?
